Robert 'Bob' Lee Feeken

CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Robert "Bob" Lee Feeken age 86, of Cambridge, died at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 1, 2012.

He was born in Crete, Nebraska, on April 25, 1926, to Otto "Pete" and Marie (Horstman) Feeken. Bob graduated from Crete High School in 1944. He served with the Americal Division of the US Army during WWII. He took part in the invasion of Cebu Island in the Philippines and later the occupation of Japan. After the war he returned to his home in Crete, where he was employed with a propane gas company. During this time, Bob took instruction for his private and commercial flying license.

On March 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Joy Ohlson in Cambridge. To this union three children were born: David Michal, Debra Lee and Dennis Alan. Bob and Joy moved south of Cambridge to begin farming in October of 1948. Bob enjoyed raising Black Angus cattle. In addition to farming, Bob worked part time as a postal clerk. He retired from this job after 35 years of service. Bob enjoyed the outdoors and always looked forward to hunting seasons. He enjoyed traveling and took his family on vacations of which they have fond many memories.

After retiring from farming he enjoyed many hobbies. Some of which were building and flying model radio controlled airplanes, golfing, playing cards and going to coffee with the locals. Most of all Bob enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He looked forward to their visits and loved to watch them play.

Bob was a member of the First Congregational Church, 50-year member of the American Legion Post of Cambridge, Burton's Bend VFW of Holbrook, Nebraska, Elks Club, Academy of Modeler Aeronautics and Pheasants Forever.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David and a sister, Donna Donnelly; two brother-in-laws, Robert Shuemaker and Duane Reiss.

He is survived by his wife Joy of Cambridge; daughter, Debra and husband, Larry Fellows of Holdrege; son, Dennis and wife, Karen of Cambridge; daughter-in-law, Glenda Feeken of Kenai, Alaska; grandchildren, Bobi and Steve Sharp of Aurora, Colorado, Jason and Helen Feeken of Anchorage, Alaska, Ann and Cory Sander of Norfolk, Nebraska, Sarah and Jeremy Shaver of North Plate, Nebraska, Cody and Chelsey Feeken of Gibbon, Nebraska, Kristin and Bret Coward of Gering, Nebraska; 10 great-grandchildren, Archer Sharp, Adelaide Feeken, Emily and Dylan Sander, Brendyn Shaver, Cy and Conley Feeken, Destiny, Mason and Kayden Coward; three sisters, Doris and husband, Dick Carmen of Lompoc, California, Jackie Shuemaker of Melbourne, Florida and Marilyn Reiss of Crete, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held on July 4, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Cambridge with Bill Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge.
