Electronics store plans move to new location
McCOOK, Nebraska -- Locally owned electronics retailer Video Kingdom hopes to relocate from its location just off of West B Street into the building located at the intersection of Federal Avenue and West B Street, which has historically been the home of several local restaurants including the Chief Restaurant most recently.
Purchase of the Chief Restaurant building by Video Kingdom owners, Linda Taylor and her son Trevor Taylor, is contingent on it passing an inspection that is expected to be completed by the end of this week.
Linda Taylor said the move will be the end result of several years of looking to improve the business location. "We looked at several lots in the area to build on, after deciding we wanted to own rather than lease, and are very excited about the move and new location," said Linda.
Taylor said she planned to renovate the new building in the future in order to expand retail space and allow for a variety of new items and services to be offered, but her first goal would be to complete the relocation of operations as smoothly as possible.
The Taylors said they hope to take possession of the property by Aug. 1, 2012, and be open for business in the new location by the Sept. 1, 2012.
A Chief Restaurant representative said the sale had not been finalized, but confirmed the restaurant would be closing Tuesday.
Video Kingdom opened in McCook in 1983 and originally was located in the castle-like building that the Taylor family built at West 10th and B Street, home of the Good Life Chinese Restaurant today.
Their business eventually outgrew that location and they relocated to their location on West B Street, which shares commercial space with Cowboy Up Tack and the Fastenal Company.
O'Reilly Auto Parts is reported to have shown interest in the space soon to be vacated by Video Kingdom. Messages left Friday with representatives at O'Reilly Auto Parts had not been responded to as of Monday morning.
