McCOOK, Nebraska -- Because of the success of the "Tales of the Indian Raids" bus tour to Oberlin in conjunction with the Buffalo Commons Storytelling Festival, McCook Community College has added a second bus to the tour.

Those interested should contact the college immediately before the second bus is filled.

The tour will travel by bus to the Last Indian Raid Museum in Oberlin and the Sappa and Beaver Creek sites where the pioneers were raided and killed during the Cheyenne Exodus. Knowledgeable tour guides will share information about the desperate 1878 event.

The bus departs from MCC's McMillen Hall at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 8, and will return at 3 p.m. Cost of the tour is $25, which includes the bus ride, guided tour, museum tour, and lunch in Oberlin.

Those who want to learn more about the code of honor of the American Cowboy should plan to join Cowboy Poet Waddie Mitchell as he explores the "Cowboy Way" in "Cowboy Philosophy 101." The workshop will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 8, at McMillen Hall. Cost is $19.

For those who are interested in both Cowboys and Indians, MCC is offering a combination package that includes both the "Tales of the Indian Raids" tour and "Cowboy Philosophy 101" workshop for only $30. For more information or to register, contact Sharon Kircher at (308) 345-8123 or email kirchers@mpcc.edu.

The 16th annual Buffalo Commons Storytelling Festival is June 8-9 in McCook, featuring cowboy poets Waddie Mitchell and Cactus Chris, Nebraska poet Don Welch and musicians Sons and Brothers, plus Kate Benzel and Mike Adams.

Besides the historical bus tour listed above, highlights include storytelling and music at the college, at the Bieroc Cafe, McCook Public Library, Keystone Business Center, Norris Park, Fox Theatre, Memorial United Methodist Church and George W. Norris Historic Site.
