Area teams in middle of pack at Class D boys state golf meet
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- Two Gazette area teams finished in the middle of the pack at the 2012 Nebraska Boys Class D State Golf Championships.
Medicine Valley finished in a tie for fifth, and Cambridge tied for seventh in the two-day meet played Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22-23, at the River's Edge Golf Club in North Platte.
Heartland Lutheran won the team title with a 36-hole low score of 684 strokes. Bancroft-Rosalie was second with a 699, followed by Friend at 7-4 and North Central at 724. Med Valley and Guardian Angels Central Catholic of West Point tied for fifth at 728, while Cambridge and Humphrey St. Francis tied for seventh, each with a 736.
Dundy County-Stratton also competed at state, and the Tigers ended with a two-day total of 787 strokes to finish 14th in the final team standings.
BRENDAN JOHNSEN of Medicine Valley topped Gazette area competitors at the Class D state meet. Johnsen shot rounds of 82 and 82 for a 36-hole total of 164 strokes to finish tied for 13th in the individual standings. Kash Houser tied for 28th for the Raiders after shooting rounds of 84 and 91 for a 175 total.
Cambridge was led by Caleb Moyer, who went from an 87 Tuesday to an 80 Wednesday for a 167 total to jump to a tie for 18th in the final standings.
Top shooter for Dundy County-Stratton was Kyle Rotherham, who put together daily rounds of 87 and 97 for a 184 to tie for 44th.
