Monday, May 21, 2012

Norris and Kelley Park provided the battleground against malaria Saturday as walkers, volleyball teams and members of F.R.O.G. (Fitness Reaching Older Generations) raised funds to purchase special nets to be sent to countries in Africa where malaria a child every 45 seconds. Ignite, the praise and worship band at McCook Christian Church, entertained the crowd at Norris Park. Members of Significant Light, the praise and worship band at Memorial United Methodist Church, took the stage early Saturday morning so that they could later compete in the volleyball tournament. Alisha Parde, associate pastor at Memorial United Methodist Church, was pleased with the turnout. "We only had five or six teams register for the walk," she reported, "but people have been showing up all morning long." Community Hospital, Ed Thomas YMCA and Memorial United Methodist Church combined efforts over the weekend for the No More Malaria campaign and the American Cancer Society.
