McCOOK, Nebraska -- City Manager Jeff Hancock asked the Nebraska Department of Roads to include expanding U.S. Highway 83 into a four lane highway as one of its long range goals. The comments were submitted as input on the state's Long Range Transportation Plan.
"It is imperative that Nebraska review its vision in context of the regional economy. Highway 83 is a gateway and potential major corridor between Canada and Mexico and should be strengthened," said Hancock. Hancock cited agricultural related tourism and transportation niches as assets for the area that could be utilized if invested in.
"Specifically, Highway 83 should either be enhanced to a four land highway or a 'Super Two' facility," said Hancock. His comments called for enhancing bicycle, additional agricultural, conservation and tourism in the region, that would meet the stated goals and objectives of the LRTP.
