Chamber seeks public input by online survey

McCOOK, Nebraska -- The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce would like ideas from the community about how they can help support existing local businesses and enhance the value of chamber membership. The Chamber Board of Directors has approved a survey, which is available at www.surveymonkey.com/s/mccook chamber, (a link is also available on the chamber's web site www.aboutmccook.com, and Facebook page) and they are asking the public to help them determine the direction that the chamber should go.

"We want to get input from everybody, not just chamber members," said Assistant Director Tacie Fawver. "The survey is one way that we can connect back with the community so the public can let us know what they think the chamber should be focusing on." The chamber needs to have as many surveys as possible filled out by April 30.

In correlation with developing a clear future direction for the chamber, the board is also reviewing the job description for the Chamber Executive Director. "We really need to pause and determine our purpose and then get about the business of accomplishing it," said Chamber President Tyler Schmick in the chamber newsletter, "During this transition time, the office is running as usual and there shouldn't be gaps in service to our members and community.

Events are being planned, calls answered, and Tacie (Fawver) and Linda (Thieben) are doing a fabulous job!" Advertisements will be run in the next few weeks for the position.

The chamber board is also continuing to explore options for an electronic sign to place on the corner of Norris Avenue and B Street. The plan is to use some marketing funds provided by the city and replace the marquee that is on the east side of Norris Avenue with an electronic sign on the west side where it will be more visible and will constantly scroll information to promote the community and business events.

One event that the sign could highlight is the annual Crazy Days celebration in July. The marketing committee has been planning the annual sidewalk sales, and according to Fawver, it could have a different flavor this year. The committee is interested in not only promoting the outstanding variety of merchandise available, but also the abundant talent in the area. The plan is to invite area artists and musicians to become involved by setting up demonstrations and live performances throughout the business community during Crazy Days.

Another upcoming event is the annual Heritage Days Celebration in September. Nominations are currently being accepted for the royalty -- Parade Marshall, Grand Marshall, and Honor Family. Forms are available at the chamber office, or at their web site.
