CURTIS, Nebraska -- Stanley Wayne Sellers, 78, died Saturday (April 14, 2012), at Bryan LGH in Lincoln, Nebraska after a battle with cancer.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1933, near Wellfleet, Nebraska, to Leo R. and Lola Pearl (Lawrence) Sellers. He grew up on the family ranch and started school at the age of 4 years. He attended the University of Nebraska, School of Agriculture at Curtis, graduating in 1951. He entered the U.S. Army in 1954 and was united in marriage to Devon J. Gilliland on May 28, 1955, at Castle Air Force Base in California.
After leaving the service they came back to Nebraska where he was engaged in farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon, Harrison, Erceil, Lawrence and sisters, Lois (Loren) Hall and Donna Coykendall; infant brother and sister, Richard and Rita; nephews, Gary Sellers, Donald Sellers and Duane Hall, and a niece, Marlene Sellers.
Survivors include his wife, Devona of Curtis; daughter, Renee (Mark) Lehmkuhl of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister-in-laws, Shirley Sellers, Marion Sellers, Esther Sellers and Donna (Dale) Hazen; brother-in-law, Orval Coykendall; six grandchildren, one great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012, at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte. Burial will follow at Fort McPherson National Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation is today until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
