School board approves new hires, resignations

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Three resignations and five teaching contracts were approved by the McCook School Board Monday night.

The board accepted with gratitude the resignations of the district school psychologist Lynse Schmidt, Melissa Wallen, second grade teacher at McCook Elementary and Beverly Schlager, who taught reading at the junior high.

Contracts the board approved included one for a McCook High School alumni.

Jeffrey Holthus was hired by the board and will teach physical education at the junior high. Holthus has been student teaching at Lincoln East High School and has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. He will graduate in May from UNL-Kearney with an initial teaching certificate with an endorsement in physical education 7-12 and for coaching.

Other contracts the board approved:

* Caitlin Bos for fifth grade, currently a fifth grade teacher at Spring Ridge Elementary since August 2011.

* Tracy Adams for fourth grade, who previously taught first, fourth and fifth through eighth grades at St. Patrick's Catholic School and was an language arts educator and special education teacher at McCook Public Schools from May 2008 to May 2011.

* Brooke Maline for Central Elementary, who has been student teaching and will graduate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in May.

* Robin Bennett as school psychologist. Bennett has been the school psychologist at educational service unit No. 16.
