Second Fox Theatre benefit art auction next week

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

Outstanding artists from the Golden Plains of America are making their creations available for auction as a benefit for the historic Fox Theatre of McCook, Nebraska.

The second Fox Theatre Benefit Art Show & Auction will take place Saturday night, April 14, on the stage of the Fox, which is beginning its 85th year as a show place for the visual and performing arts,

"The art auction is the theatre's major fundraiser," said Lloyd Benjamin, the president of the Fox's governing board. Known as The Alliance for the Encouragement of Visual and Performing Arts, the organization needs to raise more than a million dollars for the complete restoration of the historic theatre.

"The art auction provides a big boost for us in our capital campaign," Benjamin said.

The art creations of painters, photographers and sculptors from Southwest Nebraska are the major focus of the benefit art show and auction, but the quality of the event has attracted contributions from artists who now live in other states and collectors who live in McCook but have acquired paintings from around the world.
