Commissioners stick with Norris Avenue site for jail

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Red Willow County Commissioners listened to critics of the proposed Norris Avenue Law Enforcement Center, Monday morning during their regularly scheduled meeting, before reiterating that they would not be exploring alternative locations for the project.

"We have looked at this in the past and quite frankly don't think it is a reality," said Commissioner Earl McNutt. McNutt's statement was in response to a presentation from Dale Dueland of McCook that offered financial projections for the county. The projections compared the Norris Avenue location to one neighboring the McCook Work Ethic Camp.

Commissioner Vesta Dack said she had received 50 to 100 calls in the last week from supporters of the Norris Avenue location and Commissioner Steve Downer said his position was clear as well, as he made a motion to reiterate their previous decision to locate the Law Enforcement Center on Norris Avenue. The motion was unanimously approved.
