McCOOK, Nebraska -- Teachers in the McCook School District will receive pay increases over the next two years.
The McCook Board of Education approved salary contracts between the McCook School District and the McCook Education Association, the local teachers' union, for the years 2012-13 and 2013-14.
The agreement gives a base salary increase of $225 for 2012-2013 and $240 for 2013-2014, with benefits remaining the same.
Salaries are determined by the number of years teachers have worked in the McCook School District and hours of continuing education.
Teacher salaries in the McCook School District range from $31,445 for a first-year teacher, up to $63,00 for a teacher with 20 + years of experience plus continuing education.
Benefits include:10 paid sick days; two personal leave days; health insurance with a $600 deductible and dental coverage between 50-80 percent; lifetime activity passes to any teacher and their spouse retiring after 15 years of service, with employees receiving an activity pass for family admittance to include teacher, children K-12 grade while employed by the McCook School District.
Board president Tom Bredvick thanked the school board's negotiation committee for their work on the agreement. Board and negotiation committee members Shane Messersmith added that the MEA was a good group to work and Diane Lyons commented on how early the agreement had been settled.
