Arthur 'Art' Alegria

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Arthur 'Art' Alegria, 75, of North Platte, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Premier Estates in North Platte.

Art was born on Aug. 16, 1936, to Rodriguez and Rita Alegria at Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in Mexico and came to the United States at the age of 14 as a migrant worker. He ended up in North Platte working for the Union Pacific Railroad in Maintenance of Way.

Art married Tomasa Gaona and from that union eight children were born. He later married Lucy Mae Haitz on Jan. 17, 1989, in North Platte where they made their home. They had 23 years of blessed marriage filled with love.

Art is survived by his wife, Lucy, of North Platte; four daughters, Eva (Paul) Monzon, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Gloria (Michael) Brannon, of Winchester, Virginia, Ramona Delgado, of North Platte and Elizabeth Parkin, of Salt Lake City, Utah; three sons, Sunday (Phyllis) Alegria, of Culbertson, Nebraska, Michael (Teresa) Alegria, of Northglenn, Colorado and Sammy Alegria (Becky Negley), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Claudine Alegria, of Glendale, California; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva and Lucia, both of Mexico; four brothers, Robert (Maria) Alegria, of Fort Collins, Colorado, Chavez, Lorenzo and Avalardo, all of Mexico; many nieces, nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodriguez and Rita Alegria; a daughter, Mary Ann Alegria; and two sons, Arthur James 'Jimmy' Alegria and Gilbert Alegria.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore with Father Jim Golka of St. Patrick's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery. Visitation is 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore.
