Nebraska State Patrol celebrating 75th anniversary
LINCOLN, Nebraska -- In 2012, the Nebraska State Patrol will celebrate 75 years of law enforcement service to the citizens of Nebraska.
"This is an exciting milestone," said Colonel David Sankey, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol. "There have been significant changes over the last seven and a half decades. As an agency, we plan to commemorate our past and celebrate what the future holds."
The State Safety Patrol was created by LB147, signed into law on May 11, 1937. On November 22, 1937, 44 men took the oath of office becoming Nebraska's first statewide law enforcement officers. Today, the Nebraska State Patrol employs more than 700 sworn and civilian members providing traffic, investigative, administrative and support services statewide.
In observance of its 75th Anniversary, the Nebraska State Patrol has produced several items of memorabilia for purchase. Memorabilia available for purchase can be found under the Quick Links box on the homepage of the NSP website. Anyone with questions on memorabilia is asked to contact Mandy Rettig at < mandy.rettig@nebraska.gov >. A July banquet bringing together current and retired agency members and invited guests will highlight the 75th Anniversary celebration. The banquet will be held in Lincoln.
Additional activities and events will also be coordinated in conjunction with the year-long celebration. Interested persons are invited to connect with the Nebraska State Patrol on Facebook, Twitter or check us out on our website at www.statepatrol.nebraska.gov
Colonel Sankey said, "We want to thank the citizens of Nebraska for their support and we look forward to the next 75 years of service."
