Kenneth G. W. Groves

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Kenneth G. W. Groves died Friday (Dec. 9, 2011), at his home north of McCook in Frontier County, Nebraska at the age of 89.

He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in the Quick Community of Frontier County, Nebraska. He was the son of the late Frederick S. and Carrie (Anderson) Groves. Kenneth grew up on the family farm and graduated from Red Willow High School in 1940. On Oct. 26, 1940, Kenneth married Madaline Dewane at Oberlin, Kansas.

He entered the United States Navy on June 7, 1945, serving during WW II. Following his honorable discharge on May 19, 1946, he returned to Frontier County where he spent the remainder of his life farming and raising livestock. He also worked for many years at the J. T. Harris feed lot and the West Sale Barn.

He was a member of the Garden Prairie Church. He enjoyed reading and especially his family and all the grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Groves, Lenus Groves; and one sister, Audrey Dickey.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Madaline Groves of McCook; two son, Frederick Groves, Kenneth R. Groves and wife, Becky; one daughter, Karen Meints and husband, Gene, all of McCook, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec.13, 2011, at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment will be in the Garden Prairie Cemetery north of McCook.

Visitation was Sunday from 1. to 6 p.m. and today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Memorials may be given in his name and left at the funeral home.
