OBERLIN, Kansas -- Raymond Jay Ward, 62, died Saturday (Nov. 12, 2011).
He was born July 13, 1949, in Fairbanks, Alaska to Charles and Gertrude (Miner) Ward.
He attended Lathrop High School in Fairbanks and graduated from Bird City High School in 1968.
He lived in Denver, Strasburg, Walsh and Pueblo, Colorado and Hoxie and Oberlin, Kansas.
He was a former Oberlin City Councilman.
He married Joan Kohman on Dec. 27 1969, in Alliance, Nebraska.
He worked in the parts department for Plains Equipment Group in McCook, before retiring in July 2011.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertrude Ward.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Ward of Oberlin; sons, Alan Ward of Denver, Phillip Ward of Norton, Kansas and Christopher Ward of Oberlin; brothers, Clarence Ward of Alaska and Ronald and Lashunta Ward of Newport, Tennessee; sisters, Charleen and Richard Stoner of Kettle Falls, Washington, Patricia LaDuke of Delta Junction, Alaska and Marilyn and husband, Dennis Gordon Puckett of Oberlin; mother-in-law, Maxine Kohman of Alliance; and sister-in-law, June and husband, Jerry Rogers of Kearney, Nebraska.
Services will be Thursday Nov. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Bill Duncan officiating.
There is no visitation.
A memorial has been established in his name.
