McCook High School seniors Madison Koepke, right, and Emilyne Nichols lean over to watch the blood flow through tubing from the arm of their principal, Jerry Smith, during an American Red Cross blood drive at MHS this morning. Phlebotomist Krista Blakeman of North Platte monitored Smith's donation. Blood drive coordinator Cathy Carman told donors at the school this morning that flu shots do not keep donors from giving blood right away; other vaccinations, however, are on a case-by-case basis. The school is trying to reach a goal of 25 units of blood. Walk-ins are welcome; call (308) 345-5422 and talk to teacher Barry Schaeffer to make an appointment until 3 p.m. today. Donors will have another chance to give blood at a McCook community blood drive Tuesday, from 12:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., in the Community Building on the Red Willow County fairgrounds in the 1500 block of West Fifth.
