Their talent shines

Dear Editor,

"This Little Light of Mine," a popular children's song from the 1950s and 1960s, seems to describe the art activity held at El Dorado Manor recently.

Jaynee Janosek, the activity director, organized an exhibit showing work of some local artists.

Marcy Shadley of Trenton had landscape paintings done in oil displayed. The subtle tones often seen in Nebraska skies gave them a photographic quality. A winter scene by Jaynee Janosek also was displayed. (This is an example of art talent running in families.) They are brother and sister.

Inlaid wood creations by Dale Bailey of Trenton were truly masterpieces. Known as "intarsia," they are placed together to form a mosaic picture. Each piece of his composition is made from different types of wood using their natural grain and patterns. His mare and colt picture was so life-like that you could almost see them move. Some areas were raised to give them a 3-D appearance.

Michelle Lytle of McCook sent some of her artistic creations for El Dorado residents to enjoy. She specializes in painting wildlife, Native Americans and the World Around Us on feathers and animal bones.

My colored pencil sketch of John Adams, the second U.S. president, seemed to be outranked by the work of these other artists.

Their talent shines brightly, not just a little.

Helen Ruth Arnold,

Trenton, Nebraska
