MRNRD board sets budget; levy lowest rate since 2005

CURTIS, Nebraska -- The Middle Republican Natural Resource District approved its 2011-12 budget for publication for a hearing during a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night at the Curtis Memorial Community Building in Curtis.

The budget will be heard during the MRNRDs next regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 13. The budget will be heard prior to the meeting.

The MRNRD board also decided on an $8.50 occupation tax for the 2011-12 MRNRD fiscal year, which should generate approximately $2.55 million to be primarily used for make the purchase of the Riverside Irrigation District properties.

The MRNRD board decided on a property tax of 3.2 cents, the lowest levy since 2005, for the 2011-12 MRNRD fiscal year.

In other MRNRD meeting news, the board directed the groundwater committee to continue to refine the draft of the rules and regulations before the next meeting, and the board approved a purchase of a replacement vehicle from Janssen Dodge, a Holdrege dealer, to replace the Toyota Highlander. The Highlander was traded in as part of the purchase of the new vehicle.

The next meeting for the MRNRD is Sept. 13, 7:30 p.m., with the budget hearing to precede the meeting.
