Tall horse challenge

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

PeeWee's no slouch. At nearly 51⁄2 feet tall at his shoulder (or 161⁄2 hands tall, in horse language), the 13-year-old bay gelding is a big boy. And his rider, Chesney Friehe, -- also 13 years old and only 5 feet, 2 inches tall -- was required to dismount and mount again (on the opposite side, no less) in the trail class during the Hayes County Fair 4-H horse show Tuesday morning. Chesney said earlier in the day she sometimes has to pull the four-wheeler alongside PeeWee to get on, or put him in a hole. Chesney is the daughter of Brad and Jennifer Friehe of rural Culbertson/Hayes Center.
