McCOOK, Nebraska -- Dale Kenneth Hicks, 84, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at his home in McCook.

Dale was born on March 8, 1927, in Curtis to Fred T. and Mae Elizabeth (Grous) Hicks, Jr. He and his siblings were raised by their grandmother in rural Frontier County. He graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture in 1945.

On April 18, 1945, he enlisted the U.S. Navy, at the age of 17, and served as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was also a part of the post war occupational forces in Japan. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 2, 1946.

Dale was united in marriage to Alyce Gilliland on June 6, 1948. To this union three children were born. They made their home in McCook where Dale delivered milk for Fairmont Foods and later for Metz Bakeries. Alyce preceded him in death on May 17, 1990. He later married Marjorie Elaine (Richards) Paschall Martins on Aug. 1, 1992.

Dale loved hunting and fishing. He and his family spent many hours at the lake skiing and swimming.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents; wife, Alyce; and granddaughter, Kylie Alyce Hicks.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Hicks of McCook; daughter, Donna and husband, Matthew Pearson of Prior Lake, Minnesota; two sons, Kent Hicks of Ogallala, Nebraska, and James Hicks and wife, Val of Curtis, Nebraska; one brother, Darrel Hicks of Garland, Texas; sister, Norma Brooks of Indianola, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Kendra Scott, Christopher and Michael Hicks, Bo and Jesi Hicks, and Andrew and Erin Pearson; and five great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Ron Paschall and wife, Gayle of North Platte, Nebraska, and Dave Paschall of Culbertson, Nebraska; one step-daughter, Jeannie and husband, Steve Martins of Omaha, Nebraska; six step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services are Saturday, 2 p.m., at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
