Read around the world

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Myra Stoney and Paul, Stephanie Riepl and Colton and Chris and Jamey Hansen and Hunter read books during a "Read around the World" end-of-the-school-year read-in in McCook, Nebraska, Elementary School's library Tuesday evening. Sage Graves and her parents, Todd and Karey, study the library's new 48x72-inch world map that the McCook Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization donated to the library. Media specialist Linda Wood put the map behind Plexiglas® and framed it using a $200 "America's Promise" teacher's grant coordinated by McCook National Bank. America's Promise grants require that recipients perform a community service, so students and Mrs. Wood planned and hosted the parents' "Read-In." Wood said, "It was an opportunity for parents to spend quality time with their children, share interests, discuss books, take some time together out of their busy week and celebrate the end of a very successful school year."
