ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Glenn Ervin Hinton, 83, died Saturday (April 23, 2011) at his home.

He was born on April 3, 1928, in Frontier County, Nebraska to Bert and Vera (Harrop) Hinton. He went to school through the eighth grade at Walnut Hill country school, and then attended two years at Stockville High School in Stockville, Nebraska. The family moved to Douglas, Wyoming and he graduated from Douglas High School.

After high school he worked for a couple years on a ranch before joining the service in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy until 1953. After the service, he came back to work in Curtis, Nebraska at the Frontier County Soil Conservation Office.

On June 9, 1957, he married Roberta J. Utterback in Orafino, Nebraska.

He became a mail carrier on Jan. 7, 1961, in Stockville. He carried mail for 31 years in Curtis, Cambridge and Wilsonville, Nebraska. His last route in Wilsonville before he retired was the longest route in the state at that time, 152 miles. They moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska in 1978 and later to Prairie Pines apartments in Arapahoe in 2011.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison, Nebraska, Rural Mail Carriers Association and the Nebraska Square Dancers Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brett Thomas Hinton; sisters, Roberta Dunn and June Arent.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Hinton of Arapahoe; daughter, Becki Hinton of Pueblo West, Colorado; brothers, Tedd Hinton and wife, Darlene of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joe Hinton and wife, LaVonne of Willows, California, and Jack Hinton and wife, Alice of Thorton, Colorado; sister, Ruth Johnson of Ogallala, Nebraska; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services are Friday, 10 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Revs. Michael Flury and Raymond Durner officiating. Burial is at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe with military rites given by the American Legion Post No. 343 of Edison.

Viewing and visitation is Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe.
