Bison advance to B-6 District final with win over Gering
SCOTTSBLUFF, Nebraska -- McCook High School's boys hope the third time is the charm against Scottsbluff this season.
The Bison will face Scottsbluff for the third time this year as both teams advanced to the Class B-6 District Tournament championship finals. The Bison and Bearcats are scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 1, at 8 p.m. at the Western Nebraska Community College gym.
McCook advanced by avenging an earlier loss to Gering. The Bison topped Gering, 64-50, in district semifinal action Monday, Feb. 28, at Scottsbluff. Scottsbluff advanced with a 68-56 win over Alliance in Tuesday's other semifinal.
Tuesday's McCook-Scottsbluff winner qualifies for the 2011 Class B boys state basketball tournament March 10-12 in Lincoln.
The Bison dropped an 82-70 decision to Scottsbluff in the first round of the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Tournament at Kearney Dec. 28. McCook later lost to the Bearcats, 53-39, in the first round of the East-West Shootout in McCook Feb. 10.
McCook brings a 15-9 record into Tuesday's district championship game, while Scottsbluff is 17-7. The Bearcats have lost three of their last five games.
Gering ends the season with a 15-7 record.
