ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Floyd A. "Bill" Fisher, 81, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2011), at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska.

He was born Feb. 28, 1929, north of Edison, Nebraska on the family farm to Melvin and Mabel (Musick) Fisher.

He attended rural school in the area and when he was in the sixth grade, his family moved to a farm north of Holbrook, Nebraska. He graduated from Holbrook High School with the Class of 1946.

On Sept. 2, 1951, he married Delores Breinig at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe. The couple made their home on a farm north of Cambridge. They resided in the Afton community until 1955 when they moved to Arapahoe. They raised their family in Arapahoe and educated them in the Arapahoe Public Schools.

He was a farmer all of his life. He was a leader in the Arapahoe Baby Beef 4-H club for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arapahoe, and served as chairman of the board of trustees and head usher. He and and his wife helped sponsor the Methodist Youth Fellowship for several years.

Due to failing health and when his wife could no longer care for him at home, he entered the C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe on June 26, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Helen; brother, Preston Fisher; brother-in-law, Herbert Walker; great-granddaughter, Lexi Nicole Hock.

Survivors include his wife, Delores Fisher of Arapahoe; daughter, DeeAnn and husband, Randy Hock of Smithfield, Nebraska; sons, Dan and wife, Donna Fisher, Dean and wife, Kim Fisher, all of Arapahoe, Darrell and wife, Debbie Fisher of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister, Margaret Walker of Arapahoe; sister-in-law, Maxine Fisher of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment is at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.
