WAUNETA, Nebraska -- Ray Otis Hamilton, 78, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2011), at Heritage of Wauneta.
He was born Jan. 28, 1933 in Hayes County, Nebraska, to Orval "Shorty" and Mary (Butler) Hamilton, the eldest of five sons. He attended Sunday School at the United Methodist Church and attended grade school and high school in Wauneta, graduating with the class of 1952.
Following graduation, he began working with his father at Hamilton's Garage, the family-owned business where he worked in all areas, doing service work, bookkeeping, and selling new and used vehicles. The family opened the area's first Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler dealership. He retired in July 2005.
On Sept. 4, 1972, he married Lela Marie Kennedy. They were lifelong residents of Wauneta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rodney Dean; and a great-niece, April Redfield.
Survivors include his wife, Lela Marie; three brothers, Robert and wife, Clara Hamilton, Marvin Hamilton and Richard and wife, Cheryl Hamilton, all of Wauneta; sister-in-law, Arlene and husband, Marvin Large of Imperial; two daughters, Cynthia St. Clair of Irving, California and Michelle Clifford of Prinville, Oregon; and two grandsons.
Funeral services were today at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta with the Rev. Bonnie McCord officiating. Interment followed at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
