CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Denzil L. Sears, 79, died Sunday (Jan. 23, 2011), at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 26, 1931, to Clarence and Hazel (Wolfe) Sears. He grew up in the Wilsonville, Nebraska area and graduated from Wilsonville High School in 1948. In December of 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and received a medical discharge in April of 1952.

In June of 1953, he was united in marriage to Delores Pankonin and to this union four children were born: Katherine, Karen, Kristine and Kenneth.

He worked in the mill and pump business with his father, Clarence. He later sold insurance the remainder of his life. After the death of his wife, Delores, he moved to Holdrege, Cozad and then to Cambridge.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and the Baptist Church of Wilsonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.

He is survived by his children, Katherine and husband, William Lewis of Cambridge, Karen and husband, Gary Brown of Wilsonville, Kenneth and wife, Barbara Sears of Monte Vista, Colorado, and Kristine and husband, Darrell Parlier of Kearney, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Friday, 10 a.m., at the Wilsonville Baptist-Christian Church with Keith Theobald officiating. Interment is in the Wilsonville Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday, 12-7 p.m., and Thursday, 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
