PALISADE, Nebraska -- Robert Boyd "Buster" Jutten, 77, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2010), at St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Buster was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Montrose, Colorado, and graduated from Montrose High School. He was born into a ranching pioneer family on both sides of his parents. He continued this lifestyle until his passing, ranching in both in Colorado and Nebraska.

Buster was a grandson of Gerhardt and Wilhemia Jutten who came to the Uncompahgre Valley in 1882 from Germany. They acquired land and raised livestock. Buster and his family still own the original family ranch; it was recognized by the State of Colorado in 1982 as a centennial ranch.

Buster spent his life making a living as a cattle rancher. In 1994, Buster and his family bought a cattle ranch in Palisade, Nebraska, and in 1996 they moved to Palisade. This was his home until his passing.

Buster served his country in the U. S. Army for two years, then returned home. He married Viola Brooks on Sept. 4, 1956, in Aztec, New Mexico and have celebrated 54 years of marriage. Buster was a people person; he enjoyed working with others whether it was working with a crew working cattle, organizing the Ouray County Labor Day Rodeo or cooking for the annual Cattlemen's dinner. He had life long friends who were only a phone call away.

Buster was President of the Board for the Palisade Credit Union, a member of the Ouray Cattlemen's Association, and the Ouray Sheriff's Possee. He was also a board member of the Colorado State Brand Inspector.

Buster was deeply involved in his community and the residents. He enjoyed team roping, skeet shooting, and snowmobile riding. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Buster was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Jutten and Avah (Humphrey) Jutten; brothers, Delmar Jutten and Jim Jutten; and sister, Peggy Waldow.

Surviving family members include his wife, Viola (Brooks) Jutten of the family home in Palisade; son, John and wife, Amey Jutten of Palisade; daughter, Tammie and husband, Eddy Lang of Montrose, Colorado; sister, Wilma Flowers of Montrose; grandchildren, Tyler Lang, Landon Jutten, Jenna Jutten, Kyle Jutten and Kamron Jutten.
