Early morning fire

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

McCook, Nebraska, firefighters inspect the damage after fire spread just after midnight today from an RV motor home to the south wall of a garage at 1006 East B. Fire Chief Marc Harpham estimated damage to the mobile home and the garage, owned by Kenneth Yeager, at $10,000. Harpham said a state fire marshall called to the scene was unable to determine a cause of the fire, but the investigation continues. Fifteen firefighters responded with two pumpers, one ambulance and one command vehicle, and spent approximately four hours at the scene to complete the investigation. The damage to the garage would have been much worse had the fire not been turned in as soon as it was, Harpham said. "Fortunately, we had an observant person that smelled smoke and went to investigate the source of the odor. He was able to locate the fire and called 911 right away, probably saving the garage from burning."
