Deer season opener

At 10 a.m., Monday, Andrew Smith of McCook holds one of 322 deer checked in with the Red Willow County sheriff's office since firearms deer season opened Saturday morning. Smith took the 5x5 mule deer early this morning, southwest of McCook, about one mile north of the Kansas border. The sheriff's office checked in 305 deer over the weekend, one of which was a 20-point deer. From sun-up until 10 a.m., today, hunters checked in another 17
