McCOOK, Nebraska -- Audrey May Troester, 96, died Saturday (Nov. 13, 2010), at the Ambassador Nursing Home in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She was born April 18, 1914, in Bartley, Nebraska, to William Arthur and Elma Etta (Hodgkin) Burton. She grew up in the Bartley community.

On Jan. 5, 1939, Audrey married Joseph John Tines. They farmed in the Bartley area and reared two children, Joseph Charles and Donna May. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1963.

On Dec. 29, 1974 Audrey married Albert Troester and they farmed south of Bartley. For many years Audrey worked for J.C. Penney, where she was a clerk and an alteration specialist. She wrote a weekly story for the Indianola News and enjoyed writing poetry and wrote several books documenting her life.

She traveled extensively with her devoted and loving husband, Alb; both in the states and abroad, and continued their yearly attendance at the Nebraska State Fair. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, the "thirty-plus" supper club, and the pinochle club. The couple retired and moved to McCook in 1981.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert on Nov. 19, 2003; daughter, Donna May Clapp and husband, Robert; and brothers, Gerald, Francis, and Myrlin.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Tines and wife, Rosemary Maspero of Fremont, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-granchidlren; sister, Marian Raburn of Holdrege, Nebraska; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services are Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Tom Albertson officiating. Interment is in the Riverview Cemetery in McCook.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m.
