ALLIANCE, Nebraska -- Donald Roy Welch, 71, died Saturday (Nov. 6, 2010), at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance.
He was born May 16, 1939, in Farnam, Nebraska to Robert Leland and Mildred Josephine (Spencer) Welch. He was a graduate of Farnam High School.
On April 19, 1969, he was united in marriage to Patricia D. Arent in Curtis, Nebraska.
The couple moved to Alliance in 1979 where he worked for the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad until retiring as a machinist in 2001.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leland Douglas Welch; and sister, Ruth Yvonne Pedersen.
He is survivored by his wife, Patricia of Alliance; sons, Robert L. and wife, Lynne Welch of Lincoln, Nebraska, Steve D. and wife, Pam Welch of Alliance, Randall M. and wife, Angela Welch of Hillsboro, Kansas, Jordan J. and wife, Amanda Welch of North Platte, Nebraska; daughter, Jana Welch of Alliance; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Thursday, 2 p.m., at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. James Novakowski officiating. Burial is in the Arbor Cemetery in Stockville, Nebraska.
Visitation is today at Bates-Gould Funeral Home until 6 p.m. with family being present from 4-6 p.m.
