STRATTON, Nebraska -- S. Irene League, 87, died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 2010), at Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, Nebraska.
She was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Stratton to William and Georgia (Thomas) Williamson and she graduated from Stratton High School.
On April 14, 1944, she married James Howard League.
The couple settled on their farm southeast of Stratton where they farmed, had a dairy operation and raised their family. She was a member of the Christian Union Church in Stratton where she taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Gideon's Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a rural school teacher and a telephone operator. Her duties also included daily milk delivery to Stratton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wilda Williamson; grandson, Nicholas League; and half-brothers, Gayle and Earl Haase.
She is survived by her husband, Howard League; two daughters, Pam Penner and husband, Paul of Lincoln, Nebraska, Ginger Stone and husband, Rod of Anchorage, Alaska; sons, Jim League and wife, Bev of Smyrna, Tennessee, Coy League and wife, Kathy of Bethany, Oklahoma; four sisters, Ireva Bogart of Fort Collins, Colorado, Wilma Egle of Wauneta, Nebraska, Bonnie Yost of Wauneta, and Nancy Brown of Trenton, Nebraska; one brother, Bill Williamson of Arapahoe, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are Friday, 2:30 p.m., CDT, at the Christian Union Church in Stratton with Rev. Kevin Fink officiating. Interment will follow services at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton.
There is no visitation. The casket will be open at the church prior to services.
Memorials may be given in her name to Gideon's International.
