Oct. 27, 1935-Sept. 18, 2010

FLORENCE, Oregon -- Royce A. Horsky passed away Saturday (Sept. 18, 2010), in Florence, Oregon.

Royce was born Oct. 27, 1935, at his grandparents' home near Liberty, Nebraska to parents Frank and Evelyn Horsky. They lived near Liberty until his parents, Royce and younger brother Larry moved to Diller, Nebraska in 1946, where he later graduated high school in 1953.

After graduation he was employed by Rock Island Railroad in Lincoln, Nebraska and worked in Belleville, Kansas, Fairbury, Nebraska and Goodland, Kansas until 1980.

He married Mary Loch in 1956, they had three children, Denise, Jeff and Jim. While in Goodland he was a member of the Elks, played golf, bowled and enjoyed cruising in his 1964 convertible mustang. Royce and Mary divorced in 1980. He moved to Oxford, Nebraska where he went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad and started the second chapter of his life.

He met Marline and her two younger children in Oxford. They had many good times with Marline's mother, sisters, Sadie and Arnie Schoen, and family and friends. They courted, moved to McCook, Nebraska and married in 1983.

Royce retired from the railroad in 1997, and he and Marline decided to move to the Oregon coast to be near family. He enjoyed living on the Oregon coast, the lighthouses, wildlife, seafood and going on scenic drives and walks on the beach with Duffy. Cruise trips to Alaska were a favorite Northwest trip. He loved Nascar and Dale Earnhardt. He became an avid Mariners fan, sometimes a Duck and Beaver fan, but always a Cornhusker. He was a volunteer at the Florence Food Share, Meals on Wheels and active in his church.

Royce made many new friends and enjoyed all the family holidays, Fathers' Day and birthdays with the family that dearly loved him and will miss him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marline; stepdaughters, Jeri and husband, Ken Lewis, Becky and husband, Steve Gossett, and Jennifer and husband, Jon Coats; stepgrandchildren, Kyle Lewis, Tucker Lewis and wife, Rochelle, Daniel Gossett, and Jackson Coats; brother, Larry Horsky and wife, Ruth; nephew, Steve Horsky and his family; niece, Sara Horsky and her family; his children, Denise and husband, Doug Knutson, Jeff Horsky and wife, Kim, and Jim Horsky and wife, Paula; grandchildren, Aspen and Aaron Knutson, Alex and Nicholas Horsky, and Kayla and Jarrett Horsky.
