STRATTON, Nebraska -- Daniel "Roland" Sandberg, 70, died Sunday (Sept. 12, 2010), at his home in rural Stratton.
He was born Dec 28, 1939, in North Platte to Nels Ejnar and Vida (Tabler) Sandberg. He attended elementary school in a county school south of Hershey, Nebraska, and graduated from Sutherland High School in Sutherland, Nebraska in 1958. He worked several jobs in Denver, Colorado and later worked with a home builder in Lincoln as a carpenter.
On June 1, 1963, he was united in marriage to Loretta Jo Lorens in Stratton, to this union four children were born. In 1964, they moved to a farm south of Stratton where they raised their family, farmed and ranched; raising mostly wheat and cattle.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Deborah Ann, in infancy; brother, Robert; and nephew, Rusty.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta; sons, Daniel Sandberg and wife, Mary, Christopher Sandberg and wife, Paula, all of Stratton; daughter, Gina Saba of Aurora, Colorado; brothers, Ivan Sandberg and wife, Ramona of North Platte, Nebraska, and Bruce Sandberg and wife, Dianne of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sister, Diane Kirsch and husband, Larry of North Platte; sister-in-law, Karen Sandberg of Sutherland; and 16 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Wiedel officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Stratton.
The rosary will be Wednesday, 7:00 p.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stratton.
Visitation is Wednesday, 5-7 p.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church prior to the rosary.
Memorials may be given in his name.
