Dennis Thummel

HOISINGTON, Kansas -- Dennis Thummel, 65, formerly of Brighton, Colorado, died Wednesday (Sept. 1, 2010), at County Place Assisted Living in Hoisington.

He was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Englewood, Colorado, to Walter and Eleanor (Korte) Thummel. He was raised in Selden where he received his education.

He served in the United States Navy.

On July 20, 1965, he married Shirley Packard.

He lived in several locations in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado where he managed Co-ops.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thummel of Brighton; son, Bill and wife, Karen Thummel of Colby, Kansas; daughter, Shelley and husband, Don Gotchall of Great Bend, Kansas; three brothers, Wayne "Tom" and wife, Pat Thummel of Nashville, Indiana, Steve and wife, Glenda Thummel of Liberal, Kansas and Joe Thummel of Altus, Oklahoma; and eight grandchildren.

Memorial services were Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church in Selden, Kansas with the Rev. Dana Clark officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Selden Cemetery.

The vigil service were Monday, 7:30 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Selden.

There was no visitation.

Memorials can be made to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in Boulder, Colorado.
