McCOOK, Nebraska -- DeWayne Dean "Ole" Ohlson died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska, at the age of 54.

He was born Oct. 6, 1955, in McCook, Nebraskas, the son of Stanley "Ole" and Elda (Houghtelling) Ohlson. He grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook Senior High School in 1972.

He entered the United States Army on Sept. 17, 1974, where he was a sergeant before receiving his honorable discharge on Oct. 11, 1977.

He returned to McCook where he worked in the oil fields for Murfin and Golden Eagle drilling companies. He also worked at Sports Bar for many years and was an avid golfer who also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Due to ill health, he retired in 2009.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elda Ohlson in 1991.

DeWayne is survived by his father, Stanley "Ole" Ohlson; one brother, William Ohlson, both of McCook; two sisters, Cynthia Catchings of Page, Arizona and Renee Ohlson of North Platte, Nebraska; relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Terry McCorkle officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Friends may sign his register Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
