WAUNETA, Nebraska -- William Keith Kerchal, 82, died Sunday (Aug. 1, 2010) at the Heritage of Wauneta Nursing Home after a lingering illness.
He was born May 15, 1928, to Joseph I. Kerchal and Olga C. (Vlasin) Kerchal on the family farm 13 miles north of Wauneta. Je received his early education at the "brick school" north of his home, and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1945.
He spent his entire life on the farmstead where he was born except during the two years of service in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He was united in marriage on June 4, 1955, to Nona J. (Boulton) Kerchal.
He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Olga Kerchal; and five siblings, Eva Polly, Leonard, Virgil, Ramona Nordhausen, and O. Joann Vicary.
He is survived by his wife, Nona; three sons, Kim and wife, Jane of Risca, South Wales, Kevin and wife, Laurie of Wauneta, and Lloyd and wife, Kathleen of Fort Collins, Colorado; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services are Saturday, 2 p.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Committal is at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
In lieu of Flowers, the family asks for donation to the Orphan Grain Train.
