NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska -- Melissa Sue (Leibhart) Vargas, 24, died July 12, 2010, east of Kearney as a result of a car accident.
She was born July 15, 1985, to Gerald and Pam (Shultz) Leibhart in North Platte.
She served as a missionary in Fiji at the age of 15 and in 2003, she graduated from North Platte High School.
She married Michael Vargas on Jan. 2, 2006, in North Platte. She was attending school at Fort Hays State University studying art therapy.
She worked at Maranatha Bible Camp.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Jane Miller and Darlene Hansen.
She is survived by her husband, Michael; parents, Pam and Dan Miller of North Platte, and Gerald Leibhart of Cozad; brother, Gregg and wife, Hope Leibhart of Cozad; sister, Danielle and husband, Chancy Tomlinson of North Platte; grandparents, Dick and Pat Shultz of North Platte, and Gary and Josie Leibhart of Callaway, and Clinton Miller of North Platte; step-father-in-law, Dennis Cain of McCook; mother-in-law, Lois Vargas; and brother-in-law, Nick and wife, Tiffany Vargas; and many family and friends.
Funeral services were July 17 in North Platte at Bethel Evangelical Free Church. Burial was at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.
