CAMBRIDGE, Nebraska -- Elaine Mildred Potts, 82, died at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Wednesday (July 14, 2010).

She was born in Kensington, Kansas on Oct. 18, 1927 to Walter and Rosella Fern (Thomas) Day. Elaine graduated from McCook High School in 1945.

She married Richard Douglas Ruby in July of 1944. In June of 1962, she was united in marriage to Fred J. Seybold and he preceded her in death in October of 1979. She then married Ernie Potts in June of 1982 and he preceded her in death.

Elaine was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She served on many committees and belonged to the United Methodist Women's Circle. Elaine was also a member of the sorority Alpha Omicron.

She enjoyed needle work (embroidery and quilting), dancing, oil and water color painting, music, especially playing the piano and a love for travel. She traveled across the US in her motor coach. She would spend the winters in Corpus Christi, Texas until health kept her from traveling south.

She volunteered with the Cambridge Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and spent many hours working at the Cambridge Thrift Shop.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Fern Day; husbands, Fred J. Seybold and Ernie Potts; daughter, Nancy Ruby; brother, Harold Day; step-son, Ronald Seybold; step-daughter, Mary Seybold Fetters; step-grandson, Roy Seybold; son-in-law, Eugene Whitt; and daughter-in-law, Patty Ruby.

Survivors include three daughters, Gloria (Ruby) and her husband, Dennis Kersey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Susan Ruby of Nashville, Tennessee; Judy (Seybold) and her husband, Don Long of Linn, Kansas; three sons, Richard Paul Ruby of Earth, Texas, Thomas and wife, Barbara Ruby of Buckeye, Arizona, and Stuart and wife, Heidi of Alvin, Texas; sister, Shirley Potts Junker of Indianola; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Elaine also leaves to mourn special friend and companion for many years Floyd Schroeder.

Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge. Pastor Sherry Sklenar will be officiating services. Interment will be in the Trenton Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Monday.

Visitation will be Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

Memorials may be left in Elaine's name to the Cambridge Senior Center and left at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
