SALINA, Kansas -- Don L. Claussen, 91, formerly of Oberlin, died Tuesday (June 8, 2010) at Holiday Resort Nursing Home in Salina.
He was born Oct. 10, 1919, to Herman and Lydia (Wagner) Claussen in Smith Center, Kansas. He attended Decatur Community High School and graduated in 1936 followed by Dodge City Business College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee.
On March 23, 1941 he married Genola Waldo in Oberlin. The couple spent their lives together in Oberlin. After his wife's death he moved to Salina.
He worked as the county engineer for Decatur County and owned D-C Wholesale Supply.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Mount Slope Lodge No. 186, Decatur County Area Shrine Club, Isis Shrine in Salina, Kansas Engineers Association, and National Society of Professional Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genola; two sons, Charles Claussen, and James Claussen; daughter, Donna Hullet; father, Herman Claussen; mother, Lydia Claussen Railsback; stepfather, Charles Railsback; two brothers, Vic and Warren Claussen; grandson, David Claussen; and step-grandson, Jeff Jamen.
He is survived by two daughters-in-law, Cathy Claussen of Oberlin, and Bonnie Claussen of Denton, Texas; brother-in-law, Lloyd Waldo and wife, Mary of Oberlin; sister-in-law, Myrtle Waldo of Oberlin; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services are on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin. Interment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the service.
Memorials can be given to American Legion Flag Fund and the Oberlin Cemetery Tree Fund.
