ARAPAHOE, Nebraska -- Sandra Kay Kring Grindle, 71, died May 17, 2010 at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

Sandra was born on Oct. 8, 1938 in Alamosa, Colorado, first daughter to Ben and Cora Kring. She was raised in the San Luis Valley and spent much of her time helping her father shear sheep and work in the lettuce fields.

She married Dolphus R. Grindle on Nov. 26, 1955. They lived in the valley for a time then moved to Georgia and moved back to the valley to start their family. To this union were born Randall William, Anthony Alan and D. Albert Grindle.

After being widowed in 1963, Sandra studied for her GED and graduated on Aug. 31, 1971 from Adams State College. While she was raising her family she began teaching in Walsenberg, Colorado and continued studying to receive her master's degree in elementary and special education. She ended her education career in Center, Colorado.

Following her retirement she moved to Syracuse, Nebraska to be closer to her grandchildren. She loved and adored them all and loved caring for all of them. She later moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska and opened a daycare where she cared for 36 children on a daily basis. She then moved to Yutan, Nebraska to care for two of her granddaughters. Following her stay in Yutan she moved to Oxford, Nebraska in 1991 to stay close to her family.

In 1993 she bought her home in Arapahoe and lived there until February 2010 when due to failing health moved to C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Nursing Home.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her granddaughter, April Lynn Grindle; and an infant great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her children, Randy and wife, Lori of Wiggins, Colorado, Tony and wife, Dionne of Sterling, Colorado, Albert and wife, Dana of Holbrook, Nebraska; sister, Linda and her husband, Jim Schmidt of Alamosa, Colorado; nephew, Scott Schmidt and wife, Kristen of Grand Junction, Colorado: as well as nine grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on May 22, 2010 in Alamosa, Colorado at the Fourth Ward Chapel of the Church of Latter-Day Saints with interment services at the Uraca Cemetery on Mount Blanca.
