McCOOK, Nebraska -- The City of McCook plans an open house at the Public Safety Center from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight.
At a recent townhall meeting, the majority of those in attendance indicated they would favor funding a new facility through the use of sales taxes or a combination of sales and property taxes, with property taxes only a distant third.
Red Willow County commissioners indicated Monday that they would not be interested at this time in joining with the city to build a new jail as part of the current project.
A similar proposal was defeated by the voters in a bond issue in 2006.
The county bought two properties on the courthouse block, but has not committed to using the space for construction of a jail.
