OXFORD, Nebraska -- Arlyn E. Marble, 73, died Thursday (May 6, 2010) at Harlan County Hospital in Alma, Nebraska. He was born Dec. 2, 1936, at Stamford, Nebraska to Ervin and Laura (Dunn) Marble.

Arlyn grew up in the Stamford area and graduated with the Class of 1955 from Stamford High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August of 1955.

On Nov. 9, 1957, he married Kathy Scruggs at Kansas City, Missouri, they later divorced.

He retired from the U.S. Navy in January of 1974 as an air traffic controller and returned to Hollinger, Nebraska, where he helped the farming operation of Clinton Schluntz, whom later would be his brother-in-law.

On Oct. 6, 1988, he married Freda (Hall) Knipschild at Norton, Kansas.

He continued to help Clinton Schluntz farm until about five years ago.

He was a member of United Methodist Church at Hollinger, American Legion at large in Omaha and Eagles Club at Holdrege, Nebraska.

He loved and enjoyed deep sea diving, playing cards, bowling and playing pool.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother.

Survivors include his wife, Freda of Oxford, Nebraska; son, Jeffery Marble of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter, Nita Conyers of Tennessee; step-son, Randy Knipschild of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-daughters, Kitty and husband, Tom Harbison of Bastro, Texas, and Kandy and husband, Tommy Wheeler of Oxford; brother, Verlyn and wife, Louise Marble of Columbia, Missouri; sister, Vivian and husband, Clinton Schluntz of Oxford; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be Monday, May 10, 2010, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church at Hollinger with the Revs. Jane Blum and Linda Knipping-Potts officiating.

No viewing or visitation as body was cremated.

Military honors at the church by local veterans groups.

Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City, Nebraska, is in charge of the arrangements.
