BEAVER CITY, Nebraska -- Laura M. Becker, 46, died Sunday (April 25, 2010) at Cambridge as a result of an auto accident South of Hendley.
She was born May 18, 1963, in Norton, Kansas, to Willis C. and Lynn M. (Nichols) Nelson. She grew up in Norton, Kansas, and graduated from Norton Community High School with the Class of 1981.
On Nov. 7, 1981, she married Lynn Becker at Norton.
She was a stay at home mother and later was employed at the Beaver City Times Tribune. She has been employed at the Furnas County Sheriff's Office for the past 18 years, most recently as office manager, where she was also serving as president of the Nebraska Emergency Service Communications Association (NESCA).
She was preceded in death by her father, Willis Nelson; and grandparents, Tom and Ruth Nichols and Cliff and Edna Nelson.
Survivors include her husband, Lynn of Beaver City; a daughter, Stefanie and husband, Elliot Hoefs of Arapahoe; a son, Adam and wife Kayla Becker of Wood River; her mother, Lynn Nelson of Norton, Kansas; a sister, Patsy and husband, Bob Moody of Lawrence, Kansas; three brothers, Tom and wife, Melissa Nelson of Paola, Kansas, Steve and wife, Tamara Nelson of Norton and Dennis and wife, Jan Nelson of Wichita, Kansas; brothers and sister-in-laws, Danny and wife, Karen Becker, David and wife, Julie Becker and Rhonda Becker; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Norton, Kansas, with the Rev. Robert Barnhill officiating. Cremation will follow services with inurnment at a later date.
Viewing and visitation will be Saturday, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City. Casket will not be opened at the church.
