Stella Lorraine Kitzing died Wednesday (April 21, 2010) at the McCook Community Hospital in McCook, Nebraska, at the age of 91.

She was born Nov. 16, 1918, in Frontier County, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Ernest and Rose (Puls) Lempp. Stella grew up in Frontier County where she graduated from the Salem Lutheran School.

On Oct. 25, 1934, Stella married David Kitzing at Norton, Kansas. They made their home in Gosper County, Nebraska, on a farm north of Arapahoe, Nebraska, where they reared three children and raised wheat. She lived on the farm until the death of her husband, David in 1964. Following his death she moved to McCook where she has spent the remainder of her life.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandkids and great grandkids, gardening, playing Bingo and cards.

Stella was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Victor Lempp; grandchildren, Debra Branstiter and Scott Kitzing; and great grandchildren, Hilary Branstiter and Bo Michael Stevenson.

Stella is survived by two daughters, Barbara and husband, Lewis Stevenson of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Carmen and husband, Jene Custer of McCook, Nebraska; one son, David Kitzing and wife, Beverley of Lexington, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren, Pamela (Larry) Hidy, Brenda (Paul) Sonksen, Kim (Lori) Kitzing, Michelle (Rodney) Hagemeister, Tawnya (Don) Rayman, Shawn (Karen) Kitzing, Kevin (Tammy) Custer, Jeannine (Edward) Rinehart, Eugene Custer and Krystal (David) Downing; 22 great-grandchildren, Aaron (Shawna) Branstiter, Josh Hidy, Tora Brester and fiancé Michael Hamelton, Drew Mandelko, Nathan and wife Liz, Andrew Kitzing and fiancée Lori Lepelletier, Amy Kitzing, Adam Kitzing, Megan Hagemeister, Jacob Hagemeister, David Kitzing, Nicholas Kitzing, Gavin Rayman, Thomas Kitzing, Hunter Kitzing, Madilyn Kitzing, Kylee Downing, Danten Downing, Dalton Downing, Elliot Hyurta (Downing), Donnie Rinehart and Angela Rinehart; 8 great-great-grandchildren, Broklyn Branstiter, Landyn Branstiter, Ashton Brester, Bo Michael Hamelton, Amy Kitzing, Cody Kitzing, Tiffany Kitzing and Kaden Mulligan; extended family, Matt Thayer, who was like a grandson; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with the Rev. Tom Albertson and Shawn Kitzing officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery at Arapahoe, Nebraska.

Memorials may be given in her name and visitation will be Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
