'Scrappers' film to debut at Fox Theatre

Thursday, April 22, 2010

NORFOLK, Nebraska -- McCook's Fox Theater has been named as one of seven theaters throughout the state chosen to premiere a new film featuring the 1942 Nebraska Scrap Metal Drive.

The film, titled "Scrappers: How the Heartland Won World War ll," features the 1942 Nebraska Scrap Metal Drive that supported the World War 11 war effort. It highlights the dramatic participation of the World War II home front from the perspective of the more recent war on terror. The 1942 Scrap Metal Drive was a monumental event in Nebraska's history, bringing together Nebraska's residents for a common cause and ultimately playing a part in changing the course of World War 11 for the United States.

"Scrappers" was produced by Nebraska native and Seton Hall University professor James Kimble and his colleague Thomas Rondinella. Kimble and Rondinella view the production of this film as a service to the state of Nebraska. They hope that it provides residents with the opportunity to see and appreciate the work that was done in Nebraska during World War 11.

The producers have partnered with Nebraska Life Magazine to coordinate the statewide film premiere event. Post-production work and other expenses are being sponsored, in part, by the Nebraska Humanities Council. In addition to McCook, "Scrappers" will be shown in Norfolk, Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, Alliance and Scottsbluff.

"Scrappers" will premiere at the Fox Theatre on Saturday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. No admission will be charged, however, free will donations will be accepted with proceeds going to benefit the Fox Theatre renovation project. Additionally, food item donations will be collected for the McCook Pantry.

Both producers will be present at the event and will be available for a question and answer session with the public following the film. Those who participated in the 1942 Scrap Metal Drive are strongly encouraged to attend and will be recognized.
