McCOOK, Nebraska -- Renovations on the band shell in Norris Park could begin in late August.

The McCook City Council unanimously approved Monday night a contract with

Berggren Architects of Lincoln.

Berggren will provide architectural services for the renovation, starting with preliminary drawings.

After this is done, the project can be bid in July with construction to begin by late August.

According to the contract, Berggren would receive 12.5 percent of the total costs to renovate the band shell.

Renovation work has been initially estimated at $111,500, said City Manager Kurt Fritsch. Berggren would receive $14,000 with that estimate.

Work on the band shell include stucco repairs /replacement, door/ window repairs or replacement, plumbing improvements, interior and exterior painting and code-required improvements for the electrical system.

The city will pay for the renovation using three sources: city sales tax receipts, ACE revenue and proceeds from the city's share of Keno.
