PARK, Kansas -- Arthur "Art" Hilzer, 80, died Thursday (April 15, 2010) at Gove County Medical Center in Quinter, Kansas.

He was born Aug. 3, 1929, to Henry Hilzer and Esther (Lear) Hilzer at Grover, Colorado.

On June 1, 1952, he married Donna Lou Sharp, she died May 21, 1983. On Sept. 1, 1984, he married Joan (Wilson) McCullough Hilzer.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He managed grain elevators in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Kansas for over 25 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Donna Hilzer.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Hilzer; two daughters, Leda Hilzer of Bakersfield, California, and Charlotte Lucas and husband, Dennis of Wauneta; two step-daughters, Da'Nella Anderson and husband, Jeff of Topeka, Kansas and Sheryl Johnson and husband, Steve of Oakley; one step-son, Mikel McCullough; brother, Marvin Hilzer and wife, Vi of Casper, Wyoming; two sisters, Shirley Allen and husband, Don of Denver, Colorado, and Norlene Bates and husband, JR of Vernal, Utah; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are Monday, 3 p.m., at Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, Kansas.

Visitation is Monday, 1 p.m. until time of service, at Schmitt Funeral Home.

Interment is scheduled for Tuesday, 10 a.m. (MDT), at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

Memorials may be given to the Quinter Volunteer Ambulance Service.
