WOOD RIVER, Nebraska -- Paul Albert Utterback, 75, formerly of Arapahoe, Nebraska, died Saturday (April 10, 2010) at the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society Home in Wood River.

He was born April 1, 1935, at the family farm near Holbrook to J. Thomas and Gladys (Reitz) Utterback.

He served in the U.S. Army and received an honorable medical discharge.

After driving a truck for years, he took over the family farm where he worked until he retired.

In 1957, he married Dorene Shattuck. Their son, Terry tragically passed away one week before his first birthday. They later divorced. Paul spent many years with his friend, Ann Newell, and enjoyed traveling. She passed away in 2002 from cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terry Jay; three brothers, Gerald, James and Wayne Utterback; sister, Darlene Utterback; and brother-in-law, Charlie Walker.

Survivors include his children, Jeff Utterback of Arapahoe, Denise and husband, Chris Petersen of Sandy, Utah, Jay and wife, and Melinda Utterback of Kearney; sisters, Roberta and husband, Glenn Hinton of Arapahoe, SaraMae Walker of Hayes Center, and Irma and husband, Lloyd Pfeiffer of Arapahoe; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Stan Murdoch of First Baptist Church in Kearney officiating.

Private family inurnment will be at the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe.
